Feline friends

We've been incredibly fortunate that the cats are nice to Sydney. They tolerated her infant cries in the beginning and now they tolerate her learning to pet "gentle" and the occasional ear twist.

There were a few times when I prepared to put the sleeping infant Sydney in her bassinet only to find Vader in baby blanket heaven. And, he jumped in her crib a couple of times - once when she was in there. I think that surprised him more than her. He even spent most of the summer sleeping under her crib.

This photo from April was their first close encounter.

Norton observed from the sidelines longer, but he is patient with Sydney. She seems to have a particular affection for Norton - probably because he looks like the panda bear in one of her Eric Carle books. She does seem to like his bulky fur, especially his tail. When he strolled past her tonight she just lit up.

Brian calls the photo below "Ham." We were trying to take pictures of Sydney in her coming-home-outfit last January and Norton wanted to participate.

Both cats use to spend a lot of time in our laps. Below Norton tries to reclaim his spot.

Again, we're really lucky to have such good natured critters.
